What is Syndication?
Content syndication is the process of publishing simultaneously in more than one online location. It's an easy way to reach a wider audience and provides a convenient service for your readers -- they won't have to visit your site to discover whether you've posted new content. Syndicated content, or feeds, can consist of several elements: the headline, a short summary of the article, and metadata -- information about the article. So, if your content is:
- List-oriented, like article summaries or news headlines, or
- Useful or instructional, keeping subscribers up-to-date with industry, or
- Changes frequently, or
- Newsworthy,
Syndicate it! You'll get more traffic to your site.
What is RSS?
RSS or Really Simple Syndication allows you to share your headlines and other content with other sites. A web site using your RSS feed to display headlines will automatically place a link back to your site. The more websites that subscribe to your RSS Feed, the more links you receive, increasing your site's popularity.
RSS is a technology that allows you to obtain fresh, updated content from websites of your choice without having to visit those sites. Instead, the RSS feeds come to you.
What's an RSS Reader?
RSS and Atom files provide news updates from websites in a simple form for your computer. There are a few ways to read an RSS:
- Through an RSS aggregator such as Google or Yahoo;
- By Email.
And specifically for Joomla:
- Module Readers (read more);
- Joomla's news feed component
What's an RSS Feed?
An RSS feed is a list of items. Each item contains a headline, a summary of the information the content contains, and a link to the URL of the whole page containing that information. Other details, such as the date, time, creator's name, etc. may also be available. If the headline appeals to you, simply click on the link to read the whole story.
RSS Feeds provide a complete, updated list of headlines from the websites of your choice, letting you read selected stories with just the click of a mouse.

What has changed in iJoomla RSS since the FeedBurner API change?
A while after Google has acquired FeedBurner, they’ve completely changed the FeedBurner API, and some of the features of iJoomla RSS stopped working. We’ve tried to make them work again with the new API, but there was no solution to this issue. There for we’ve decided to simplify iJoomla RSS and on version 3.0.0 we’ve removed some of the FeedBurner features:
- Stats
- Services
- One click feed burning
You can however, still burn feeds on FeedBurner and then replace your natural RSS feed with those. You can still monitor stats, services, circulation etc, but on the FeedBurner site itself, and not from inside iJoomla RSS.
